Which flights make the 14:00 ferry?
Our planning rule: land in Sorong by about 12:30 local time. That covers bags, the 15-20 minute drive, a levy check and the ticket queue. Sorong runs one hour ahead of Bali.
What September 2026 schedule snapshots show:
- Garuda Indonesia GA 686, Bali to Sorong nonstop. FlightConnections and fltmapper list it roughly once a week on a Boeing 737-800, leaving Ngurah Rai (DPS) at 01:30-01:40 and landing at 05:40, with an Etihad EY 8104 codeshare. FlightRoutes shows Thursday, Friday or Sunday departures at 01:40. That makes the 09:00 ferry with time for breakfast.
- Lion Air JT944. Trip.com shows it leaving Bali at 07:00 and landing at 14:45. That misses the 14:00 sailing by 45 minutes, so it pairs with a private speedboat or a Sorong night.
- One-stop routings via Makassar (UPG) or Jakarta (CGK). Most days have no nonstop. A Makassar connection totals about 6h35 according to FlightRoutes. Leave Bali at 06:00 and that lands around 13:35 Sorong time, which is too late for the 14:00 ferry in practice.
Garuda, Lion Air, Batik Air and Pelita Air all fly the route; FlightRoutes counts about 13 flights a week. Fares vary widely by airline and date, so flights are quoted on request for your travel dates.

When is a Sorong night unavoidable?
It usually happens in one of four cases:
- You land after the daylight window. We recommend daylight crossings only, so a late landing means a hotel in Sorong and the morning ferry.
- Your hub connection slips. Makassar and Jakarta connections can miss on the day. In the wet season, ask for a 3-4 hour connection at the hub.
- The sea says no. Raja Ampat waters are generally calmer from October to April. Outside those months, a speedboat partner can call off an afternoon run.
- Your yacht boards the next morning anyway. Rushing a crossing gains nothing.
Budget 6-10 hours door to door from Bali, not counting transfers.

Pay in one of three places:
- Online, through the Marine Park Authority portal, before you fly. Best if you’re aiming for the 14:00 ferry.
- At Sorong harbour, before boarding.
- At the Waisai office, after crossing.
Treat both as non-refundable once issued. Regency revenue is reported as split 60 percent local government, 15 percent village tourism and 25 percent operations.

How long does it take to get from Sorong Airport to Waisai?
The drive from Domine Eduard Osok Airport to Sorong harbour takes 15-20 minutes, and the express ferry takes about two hours. When your landing lines up with the 09:00 or 14:00 sailing, plan on roughly three hours including check-in. If you land between sailings, add the wait, or book a private speedboat that leaves when you arrive.
Can I take Grab or Gojek from Sorong Airport to the ferry port?
Don’t count on it. Paparisahomestay reports that Grab and Gojek may not pick up at Sorong Airport or the harbour. Pre-book a car, especially if you’re aiming for the 14:00 ferry, because a pickup delay can cost you the sailing. When we arrange your transfer, the driver meets you in arrivals.
Does the Sorong to Waisai ferry run on public holidays?
Yes, but with one sailing. Under the schedule effective 1 September 2026, only the 14:00 departure runs on public holidays, in both directions. There is no 09:00 option that day. If you land after about 12:30 on a holiday, choose a private speedboat or plan a night in Sorong.
Do children pay the Raja Ampat fees on arrival?
Children under 12 and people with disabilities are exempt from the Raja Ampat conservation area service tariff, which is IDR 1,000,000 per person per year for foreign tourists under Pergub Papua Barat Daya No. 32/2024.
