A Bali Raja Ampat package for Christmas is a peak-week booking: Christmas and New Year weeks are requested first every year, alongside July and August. Because the marine park issues dated tickets, the December package locks your travel dates and Bali-Sorong flight seats first, then names the boat or resort. Availability, not price, is the real constraint.
Komodo Luxury says July, August and the Christmas weeks are the dates its reservations team is asked for first. Bali hotels peak over holiday weeks too.
So the December question is rarely “how much?” It is “is my week still open?”
All figures below are 2026 snapshots from the sources named and can change.
How early should you book a Christmas 2026 trip from Bali to Raja Ampat?
As soon as your dates are firm.
Raja Ampat runs on dated tickets, so the sequence is fixed: date, flight seats, boat name, then permits. The costly mistake is paying permits before dates are final, because they are treated as non-refundable once issued.
December-January booking timeline (recommended sequence, as of September 2026)
| When | Lock this | Why it can’t wait |
|---|---|---|
| Now to mid-October 2026 | Travel dates and group size; ask for a date hold | Holiday weeks go first; group size decides which boats fit |
| Once dates are held | Boat confirmed and quoted in writing | Date first, boat name second |
| October-November | Bali-Sorong and return seats; 3 Bali nights | The DPS-SOQ nonstop runs roughly once a week |
| November | Marine Park Entry Permit and regency levy | Non-refundable once issued |
| Shortly before flying | Digital arrival card (QR) and the Bali tourist levy | Both can be done online |
| Early December | Reconfirm flight and ferry times | Wet season: request 3-4 hour hub connections |
What does a peak-week Bali and Raja Ampat itinerary look like?
We plan December around 3 Bali nights plus 6 Raja Ampat nights. Six nights matches the shortest format in Komodo Luxury’s range, which typically runs 7D6N to 11D10N. December also sits inside Raja Ampat’s calmer-sea window, generally October to April.
| Day | Where | What happens | Booking item |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Bali, Ngurah Rai (DPS) | Land, digital arrival card, Bali levy, hotel transfer | Airport car; night 1 |
| 2-3 | Bali | Recovery days; Christmas Eve or Christmas dinner fits here | Nights 2-3 |
| 4 | Bali to Sorong, Domine Eduard Osok (SOQ) | Option A: Garuda GA 686 nonstop, 01:30-01:40 departure, 05:40 arrival, 3h05-3h10 block. Option B: one stop via Makassar, about 6h35 total | Flight seats; airport-to-port car, 15-20 minutes |
| 4-10 | Raja Ampat | Whole-boat charter with captain, crew and private chef; Wayag, Piaynemo and Misool as anchors | 6 nights on board; permit and levy |
| 10 | Sorong to Bali or onward | Leave the boat, fly via Makassar (UPG) or Jakarta (CGK) | Return seats; optional post-trip Bali night |
Three details that decide the flight day:
- The nonstop is weekly, not daily. FlightConnections and fltmapper snapshots from September 2026 show GA 686 flying roughly once a week on a Boeing 737-800; FlightRoutes lists Thursday, Friday or Sunday departures at 01:40. Otherwise, fly one stop.
- The overnight flight shortens night three. For a daytime option, Trip.com shows Lion Air JT944 leaving at 07:00 and landing at 14:45 local time (Sorong is one hour ahead of Bali).
- Book the Sorong car in advance. According to Paparisahomestay, Grab and Gojek may not pick up at Sorong Airport or the harbour.
If your boat boards in Waisai, the public ferry from Sorong takes about two hours. From 1 September 2026 it sails daily at 09:00 and 14:00 each way, but only at 14:00 on public holidays, and both Christmas Day and New Year’s Day are public holidays in Indonesia.
Does Christmas week change the price of each component?
Inventory is the pinch point, and levies don’t move at all.
| Component | Christmas and New Year behaviour | 2026 reference figure and source |
|---|---|---|
| Flights DPS-SOQ | Fares vary widely by source and date; convenient departure times are few | Quote on request |
| Boat (whole-boat charter) | Priced per yacht per night; the question is which boats are still free | Quote on request |
| Bali hotels | Holiday-week peak; your preferred property can sell out | Quoted per property for exact dates |
| Raja Ampat fees | Unchanged by season | The Raja Ampat conservation area service tariff for foreign tourists is IDR 1,000,000 per person per year; children under 12 and people with disabilities are exempt, as set in Pergub Papua Barat Daya No. 32/2024 (checked 2026-09-16). The regency tourism levy under Perbup Raja Ampat No. 34/2025 is confirmed when you pay. |
| Bali levy | Unchanged by season | Bali’s tourist levy for international tourists is IDR 150,000, paid through the Love Bali app, which went live on 14 February 2024, as listed on Love Bali, Bali Provincial Government (checked 2026-09-16). |
Flight fares and boat rates for December are quoted on request for the specific vessel, dates, duration, guest count and inclusions. Larger groups need larger boats.
What if the preferred boat is gone for Christmas?
Keep the date if it matters and change whatever has slack. Try these in order:
- Shift the start by a few days. Moving from 20 to 23 December may open a different set of boats.
- Take a comparable boat in the same size class for your group.
- Swap the order. Sail first and spend New Year in Bali, or the reverse.
- Change the length. Drop to 7D6N, or move just outside the Christmas and New Year weeks.
Don’t pay permits for a date that might still move. And a date hold is not a booking: no boat is yours until the reservations team confirms it in writing.
How does booking a Christmas package work?
- Send dates and group size. Say “hold my Christmas dates” and give the number of guests.
- Availability check. Komodo Luxury’s reservations team replies with the boats open on those exact dates.
- Date fixed, boat named. You receive a written quote for the whole-boat charter.
- Flights set around the boat. GA 686 when the weekday fits, otherwise one stop via Makassar or Jakarta, arranged via vetted licensed partners.
- Bali nights and transfers added. Hotel, DPS airport car, Sorong airport-to-port car.
- Permits and levies paid once final. Via the Marine Park Authority portal, or at Sorong harbour or the Waisai office.
- Pre-departure checks. Arrival card, Bali levy, reconfirmed flight and ferry times.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is December a good month for a Bali and Raja Ampat trip?
For the sea, yes. Raja Ampat’s water is generally calmer from October to April, so Christmas falls inside that window. Bali in December is both wet season and a holiday peak, so request 3-4 hour hub connections and book your hotel early. The harder part is availability, because Christmas weeks are among the first dates requested each year.
Can we fly from Bali to Sorong on Christmas Day?
Possibly, but check the weekday first. September 2026 snapshots show Garuda’s GA 686 nonstop running about once a week, and FlightRoutes lists Thursday, Friday or Sunday departures at 01:40. Christmas Day 2026 falls on a Friday. On other days, route via Makassar or Jakarta. The Sorong-Waisai ferry runs only at 14:00 on public holidays.
Do Raja Ampat entry fees cost more over Christmas and New Year?
No, the fees are not seasonal. The Raja Ampat conservation area service tariff for foreign tourists is IDR 1,000,000 per person per year; children under 12 and people with disabilities are exempt, as set in Pergub Papua Barat Daya No. 32/2024 (checked 2026-09-16). The regency tourism levy under Perbup Raja Ampat No. 34/2025 is confirmed when you pay.
How much should we budget for a Christmas Bali Raja Ampat package?
Start with the boat, the largest line. Private charter rates are quoted on request for the specific vessel, dates, duration, guest count and inclusions. Add Bali-Sorong flights, three Bali hotel nights, transfers and Raja Ampat fees per foreign guest.
