Bali Raja Ampat, 10 days vs 14 days: pick 14 if you want Misool or Wayag, since it adds two boat nights and two extra Bali nights. Ten days still works, but it keeps you to six nights around central Raja Ampat with one Bali night on each side. Levies are identical; the difference is boat and hotel nights.
Both lengths use the same corridor: Ngurah Rai International (DPS) to Domine Eduard Osok in Sorong (SOQ), a boat in Raja Ampat, then back to Bali. Four extra days buy distance on the water and slack on land.
How do the 10-day and 14-day plans compare day by day?
The flight sets the rhythm. FlightConnections and fltmapper snapshots from September 2026 show Garuda Indonesia GA 686 as the DPS-SOQ nonstop, running roughly once a week on a Boeing 737-800, leaving around 01:30-01:40 and landing at 05:40. FlightRoutes lists Thursday, Friday or Sunday departures. KAYAK also reports a Lion Air nonstop, so check at booking. Most days, plan for one stop via Makassar (UPG), about 6h35 in total according to FlightRoutes, or via Jakarta (CGK).
| Day | 10 days (6 boat nights) | 14 days (8 boat nights) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Land at DPS, digital arrival card, Bali levy; sleep in Sanur or Jimbaran | Land at DPS; settle into Ubud or Sanur |
| 2 | Rest day; late airport transfer if GA 686 departs that night | Full Bali day, no alarms |
| 3 | Sorong at 05:40, or a one-stop arrival via Makassar; board | Bali day; late transfer for the overnight flight |
| 4 | Central Raja Ampat | Sorong at 05:40; board |
| 5 | Piaynemo viewpoint | Central islands and Piaynemo |
| 6 | Central islands | Central islands |
| 7 | Central islands | Long leg north to Wayag or south to Misool |
| 8 | Final full boat day | Wayag or Misool |
| 9 | Leave the boat, fly SOQ-DPS with one stop; Bali night | Wayag or Misool, start the return |
| 10 | Fly home | Return leg |
| 11 | – | Final full boat day |
| 12 | – | Leave the boat, fly to Bali |
| 13 | – | Bali recovery day |
| 14 | – | Fly home |
Budget 6-10 hours door to door for the return flight day, excluding transfers. If the right-hand column matches your leave, the 14 day package is where to price it against real dates.
Why does 14 days unlock Misool or Wayag?
Wayag sits in the far north of the archipelago and Misool in the far south. Reaching either from the central islands means long sailing legs. A six-night trip often starts after a red-eye flight and ends with a day sailing back toward Sorong, which leaves little room for either.
Komodo Luxury typically runs Raja Ampat sailing programmes from 7D6N to 11D10N, with Wayag, Piaynemo and Misool as itinerary anchors. The 10-day trip fits the shortest of those. The 14-day trip fits a mid-length programme with room for one far anchor.
Can you fit both? Only with an 11D10N programme, and inside 14 days that leaves one Bali night before the overnight flight and one after. It works on paper, but you give up the slower Bali base that makes 14 days worth taking.
Every Komodo Luxury departure is a whole-boat charter with captain, crew, private chef and a customisable island-hopping plan, so anchors can shift around weather. Extra nights double as weather slack, and Raja Ampat seas are generally calmer from October to April.
What do the extra four days actually cost?
| Cost line (as of 2026) | 10 days | 14 days | Delta |
|---|---|---|---|
| Boat nights | 6 | 8 | +2 nights |
| Indicative boat rate | Quote on request | Same | Quote on request |
| Bali hotel nights | 2 (3 without the nonstop) | 4 (5 without the nonstop) | +2 nights at your villa’s rate |
| DPS-SOQ-DPS flights | One return | One return | None |
| Marine Park Entry Permit, foreign | The Raja Ampat conservation area service tariff for foreign tourists is IDR 1,000,000 per person per year; children under 12 and people with disabilities are exempt, as set in Pergub Papua Barat Daya No. 32/2024 (checked 2026-09-16). | Same | None |
| Bali levy | Bali’s tourist levy for international tourists is IDR 150,000, paid through the Love Bali app, which went live on 14 February 2024, as listed on Love Bali, Bali Provincial Government (checked 2026-09-16). | Same | None |
| Sorong airport to port | 15-20 minutes by car | Same | None |
The boat benchmark comes from Komodo Luxury’s Raja Ampat Honeymoon Cruise 2026 pricing, which is per yacht per night and quoted on request for the specific vessel, dates, number of nights, guest count and inclusions. Because the rate is per yacht, group size changes the maths: the cost of the two extra nights is shared by everyone on board.
Flights cost the same whichever length you pick; the weekday moves the fare, not the trip length. Garuda economy fares for DPS-SOQ and SOQ-DPS are quoted on request for your specific dates. Fares vary widely by source and date.
Park charges do not scale with nights. The Raja Ampat conservation area service tariff for foreign tourists is IDR 1,000,000 per person per year; children under 12 and people with disabilities are exempt, as set in Pergub Papua Barat Daya No. 32/2024 (checked 2026-09-16). The Raja Ampat conservation area service tariff for domestic tourists is IDR 500,000 per person per year (IDR 250,000 for holders of non-Papua Barat Daya ID cards living in Tanah Papua; IDR 150,000 for Papua Barat Daya ID holders), as set in Pergub Papua Barat Daya No. 32/2024 (checked 2026-09-16). Charges are payable online through the Marine Park Authority portal or on site at Sorong harbour and the Waisai office. Treat them as non-refundable once issued.
One line to check on either plan: Bali’s tourist levy for international tourists is IDR 150,000, paid through the Love Bali app, which went live on 14 February 2024, as listed on Love Bali, Bali Provincial Government (checked 2026-09-16). Both itineraries re-enter Bali after the boat, so confirm how the levy applies to your return.
Which traveller should stay at 10 days, and who needs 14?
Ten days suits you if:
- central Raja Ampat and the Piaynemo viewpoint are the goal, not the far north or south
- GA 686’s weekly slot lines up with your dates
- you want to test multi-night sailing before committing to a longer 2027 trip
Fourteen days suits you if:
- Wayag’s karst or Misool is the reason you are going
- you travel in wet season and want 3-4 hour hub connections without losing boat days
- children or long-haul jet lag need genuine Bali recovery before the overnight flight
- it is a honeymoon, and villa time in Bali matters as much as the boat
When does the difference matter most?
Bali peaks from June to September and during holiday weeks. Komodo Luxury reports that July, August and Christmas weeks are requested first, so both lengths book out early then.
The park works on dated tickets, so fix your date before choosing a boat name. For 2027, send dates and group size with the first inquiry; Komodo Luxury handles bookings directly through its reservations team.
Sorong logistics also punish short trips. Grab and Gojek may not pick up at Sorong Airport or the harbour, according to Paparisahomestay, so pre-arrange a car. If your boat boards in Waisai, the public ferry takes about two hours. From 1 September 2026 it runs daily at 09:00 and 14:00 in both directions, and only at 14:00 on public holidays. A 05:40 nonstop arrival makes the 09:00 sailing easy. Trip.com lists Lion Air JT944 leaving Bali at 07:00 and arriving 14:45, after the 14:00 ferry has gone. On a 10-day plan, that costs a boat day. On 14 days, you can fly a day earlier and trade a Bali night instead, keeping every boat day.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you see both Wayag and Misool on a 10-day trip from Bali?
Realistically, no. Ten days leaves about six boat nights after the Bali-Sorong flight, which suits central Raja Ampat and Piaynemo. Wayag is far north and Misool far south, so each needs its own long legs. One far anchor fits a 14-day trip; both usually require an 11D10N programme with minimal Bali time.
Do park fees go up if I choose 14 days instead of 10?
No. The Raja Ampat conservation area service tariff for foreign tourists is IDR 1,000,000 per person per year; children under 12 and people with disabilities are exempt, as set in Pergub Papua Barat Daya No. 32/2024 (checked 2026-09-16). The regency tourism levy under Perbup Raja Ampat No. 34/2025 does not change with trip length either. Extra nights on the same visit add nothing.
Is 10 days still enough if the Garuda nonstop is not flying my week?
Yes, but the margin gets thin. Without GA 686, you connect via Makassar (about 6h35 in FlightRoutes data) or Jakarta, and in wet season a 3-4 hour hub connection is safer. That can push boarding to late on day 3 or the next morning. On 14 days, you absorb the delay by giving up a Bali day instead.
